Mealworms Uses and Application
Mealworms are an extremely popular food for cage birds and wild birds. They consist of 50-60% crude protein and because of their pure cereal/vegetable diet they are an extremely safe food to use. Mealworms are a tasty treat that birds find irresistible. Many species, especially robins and blackbirds, love these additive-free treats, which have all the goodness of live mealworms but not the moisture. Sprinkle as they are, or rehydrate by soaking in warm water for a few minutes. Store in a cool, dry place and use year round. Most garden birds will eat many different foods. Here’s a quick guide to the birds that particularly enjoy this food, though other species may also enjoy it too:
Blackbird, Robin, Blackcap, Song Thrush, Dunnock, Starling, House Sparrow, Wren and of course, chickens!
All of our dried mealworms are packed with protein. You can expect all sorts of wild birds to be attracted by our mealworms such as Robins, Blackbirds and Thrushes. Birds love them and will keep coming back for more.

Dried mealworms are a fantastic source of energy for insectivorous wild birds such as Robins, Wrens, Tits, Blackbirds and Song Thrushes. None of these popular visitors to your garden will be able to resist a bowl of mealworms on the bird table.

And its not just the birds that love a mealworm – they’re popular among hedgehogs, too! Adults and baby hedgehogs benefit from the high protein and energy they can get from dried mealworms, especially in the winter months.
Mealworms can be fed to a variety of animals including wild birds, reptiles, fish, hedgehogs, budgies, sugar gliders and many more

Mealworms are the larvae of the Yellow Mealworm Beetle – the adult beetles are shiny dark-brown or black – their larvae are honey-yellow. Dried mealworms retain all this protein and fat but without the wriggle! They are also easier to store than their live counterparts!

Dried mealworms should be stored in a cool dry location.
Sprinkle as they are or rehydrate by soaking in warm water for a few minutes.

Although our dried mealworms are a year round bird food, it is recommended during Spring & Summer time to soak them in warm water before feeding as adult birds may be feeding them to their young.
